Why is poker so intriguing?

Maybe the money? maybe the probability? or maybe the ever-growing community of 'guiltless' addicts?

or maybe because of the way the game is, everybody thinks that they are better players than they actually are. Blame the bad beats on bad luck and attribute an occasional win to player reading talents. Myself included. Disagree?
